About the work

Manyoky’s paintings are characteristic through his expressive use of colors.
The contrast between the soft tones and the bright colours is enhanced by making use of self-made tempera paint.

Although his paintings are full of different kind of animal and human figures, they also can be seen as abstract pieces.
The abstract component is just as important as the figurative one
The work looks spontaneous, but it results from building the painting up in many different layers. It can happen that the artist works for years on certain pieces.

He creates a tempting world, crowded by typical figures in a humoristic light that stimulate the fantasy of the observer.
Often small in size, the paintings of Franjo Manyoky radiate great intensity and power, as if they were modern icons.
